Improving Pet Odor with Essential Oils

Improving Pet Odor with Essential Oils

Our pets are our best friends. We love everything about them: their cute little nose, their funny tails, their soft fur, their smell… wait, no, that is where we draw the line. Unfortunately our sweet pets often carry a not so great odor with them. Whether it’s the smell from a litter box, an accident on the carpet, or the wet dog smell on the couch, we want to do our best getting rid of it naturally. Once again, this is where your Essential Oils can help!

Safety First

Pets are very fragile creatures and are more sensitive to Essential Oils than humans, so we are recommending that your pet be out of the room while you work on improving the smell. This will keep them from accidentally ingesting the oils or being immersed in them for too long. In addition, you may want to continue to leave a cat out of the room for a while after, as they are the most susceptible to issues caused by Essential Oils.

Diffusing

This is probably one of the easiest ways to spruce up the air in your space. Simply putting a purifying Essential Oil Blend into your diffuser and using it in the area will quickly improve the scent. The molecules that are emitted from diffusing will float into the room and help dissolve bad smells and even kill germs. If the space is larger, you can move the diffuser around the room every 10 minutes or you could use more than one diffuser. Some of the best blends for this would be REVIVE Purify, REVIVE Tumble & Tidy, or even REVIVE Protect. Single Essential Oils that have powerful air cleansing properties would be Lemon, Lavender, Eucalyptus, Lemongrass, or Rosemary to name a few.

Room Spray

Using an Essential Oil Room Spray is a quick and convenient way to eliminate pet odors. The great thing about a spray is that you can target a specific area. It’s great to use on drapes, couches, rugs, or just in the air. Room sprays are very simple to make and easy to tuck away in a cabinet until you need it. Simply spray the desired area as needed, then wait to dry before introducing the pet back in the room.

Carpet Powder

Oftentimes, it’s your carpet that is holding onto the stinky pet smell. Being a porous surface that your pet is hanging out on all day, it’s bound to soak up their stench. Creating a carpet powder with Essential Oils is an effective way to pull that odor out of the floor. Baking Soda is a great deodorizer and the oils will help disinfect the carpet by killing bacteria.
