There are two ways you can go about cleaning your essential oil diffuser – and both are important, so we’ll touch on each one.

You’ll also need to deep clean your essential oil diffuser regularly. But to make this easier, you should quickly clean your essential oil diffuser after each use. This will prevent gunking up, so you don’t have to scrub too hard when the time for a deep clean comes!

QUICK CLEANING AFTER EACH USE

After you’ve decided you want to turn off your diffuser, simply discard the water-oil mixture from the container and fill it up with clean water and turn it back on for 2-3 minutes.

After that, discard the water and gently wipe the inside of the container with a dry cotton swab or cloth. This will clean out any left-out oils and ease your next use of the diffuser.

THOROUGH CLEANSING Your Essential Oil Diffuser

We’d recommend cleaning up the diffuser thoroughly when there is buildup from the essential oils you use in it. Follow these steps to make sure you keep your diffuser at its’ best.

Fill the water container halfway up, but make sure you fill it below the max line.
Add a tablespoon of white vinegar to the water. This will help dissipate any leftover oils in the diffuser.
Turn the diffuser on and let it work for 5-10 minutes and turn it off. The water-vinegar mixture will help eliminate the remaining oils in the diffuser and dissolve any gunk that may accumulate during regular use.
Discard the water from the container and gently swipe the container dry with a cotton cloth.
If there is still oil residue, take a cotton swab dipped in white vinegar and clean the corners of the container and the sensor.
Fill the container with clean water and turn it back on for 2-3 minutes. After that, discard the water and gently wipe the inside of the container with a soft cloth.

Some users like to use rubbing alcohol when cleaning caked-on essential oil residue, but we prefer not to – if possible. Sometimes, rubbing alcohol may be necessary to scrub away excess oil that just won’t come off. However, we’ve seen that rubbing alcohol can be a bit too abrasive for the standard ultrasonic diffuser.
